SPEAK

By Zakeia Tyson-Cross

The voice inside your head turns silent
You’ve tried everything in your power to control it
Turn it on
When you need to be comfort, reassured that you were
Turn it off
When the truth uttered too loudly, you became
Instantly pulsated to a place
You’ve always tried to avoid
It was diseased, repugnant, nasty and disdain
Not of you or what you pictured in an afternoon dream
For years you are away from it
You can’t see it due to its blockage
You dear not go near it
It later became someone else
It was like new to you
Yet old to your soul
Intrigued by what use to repulse you
Now, Its your celebrity
Your old news turned new yesterday
You want to share it
Only on your terms
Your shell, ever so dim with light
Hollow in its state
You can’t interpret it
Foreign to you because you never understood it
A trigger
Reminded you
What you worked so hard to avoid
Its bitter, gooey with layers of
I don’t want this in my life no more
But you shake the chill
Swallow the nausea
Smile for the lights
And fully accept the quite mumbles
That this is your life
