The Trees

By Zakeia Tyson-Cross

Sometimes I sit quiet and listen to the trees / Don’t look stunned– they do talk you know/ They tell me if the summers will be hot or if the winters will be long/They love to sing on rainy days and dance when it’s sunny and windy out/ Yes-they are something/ Every day is a good day for them-well almost/Sometime memories of ripe swinging bodies and babies crying make em’ feel sad, angry and want to give up living/But at night the moon reminds them of their purpose- so they hang on a little longer to watch the young ones’ sprout and grow/Here taste this-it’s from my granny’s Peachtree.
